4 brothers

Watched 4 Brothers yesterday. Didn't have the chance to catch it when it was out in the cinema. Totally a good movie, I love it. It tells the story of 4 adopted brothers, 2 whites and 2 blacks (none really related at all) who came for their mom's (adopted mom) funeral. The 4 kids were really bad growing up that noone wanted to take them, so this lady being the kind-hearted saint she is, took the 4 boys and they really grew up as brothers (wish I have people who have that much loyalty to me as these brothers were). Anyway, they found out that their mom's death wasn't an accident, she was killed. So the story revolved about them finding out who's been messing with them and getting revenge.

I was already teary eyes from the beginning of the movie, because it was rather sad. Then the movie take a funny turns hearing this 4 or perhaps 3 brothers chasing every clues (the other 1 brother was a family man that wanted to leave all the investigation to the police). The movie was straight up the way it is. They really shot and killed people and people did die. So it wasn't really a make-you-feel-good or touching movie about the love of this 4 brothers to their mom and to their siblings. The ending wasn't all that happy itself. I was very sad when one of the brothers died. Overall, it really is an ass-whooping movie I need to say this, Andre Benjamin is a bit too Andre 3000 for me, maybe just the way he stands or his body language. I seriously think his costumes were a bit too Outkast-y.

Had a real bad start today and still in it. I hope not for long. Arsenal lost, dear God! *sigH* Don't really know what to say. I want to get lost...well if the rest of the world is not going to get lost for me, then I better do.

The Devil and Miss Prym

Finally finished reading The Devil and Miss Prym by Paulo Coelho. Very bad of me, took me months and months to finish this thin book (I got the book in Novembre 2005). My excuses was, there were Potter, Christmas + End of year holiday being spent at home, and also Chinese New Year holiday. The next book I should be reading now is The Devil Wears Prada that Dagi gave me, however Vivy lent me The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, so I supposed I better read this quick and return her back. I seriously should read more and stop giving excuses that I don't have time. I should make time.

The Devil and Miss Prym tells this story of a stranger who came to a very remote and perhaps boring village (the story emphasizes that nothing interesting happened there). This stranger was pretty rich and he came with 11 gold bars to this village. However he's a very desperate man, pretty much lost everything and in everything that he had, having his wife and daughter killed by terrorists (this one happened regarding his works). Anyway, so his purpose of coming to this village was to do an experiment. He met Chantal Prym, and he chose her to help execute his experiment. He showed Chantal the 11 gold bars. Chantal knew the location of 1 bar but she didn't know where the other 10 were. The stranger said, Chantal could just go and steal the 1 gold bar she saw, but what he wanted was for Chantal to tell the whole village that there were 10 gold bars that could be theirs if they would break one of the 10 commandments "Thou shalt not kill". Chantal could just go and take the bar and wash her hands from this, but the stranger warned her that if she didn't tell the villagers about the 10 gold bars, he would tell the village that Chantal knew something that could help the village and she decided not to. So what's in it for the stranger? For him, if Chantal took the 1 gold bar but the villagers didn't do what he hoped they would do, then it would prove in this world there are good and evil people, and it would mean that he's also like that, that there's a struggle (especially in him) that could be won by either side. If the whole village agreed to kill someone for the 10 gold bars, then for him the whole world is evil, and for the desperate him, it was more acceptable (talking about being bad together). So the story highlighted all the struggle within Chantal, should she or should she not just walk away with the gold bar she saw, should she or should she not tell the village. She didn't take the gold bar and she told the village. Now, the struggle went to the village. After much talk between the village priest, the mayor, and the major people of the village, they agreed to kill a lonely old lady for the 10 gold bars. The whole rationalization was pretty amazing, especially when it was the priest who made what they wanted to do as well as choosing the victim seemed like a noble thing to do.

Would you ever consider taking part in this experiment? At first read of the proposition, I thought well that was easy. Don't take the gold, don't partake in this evil experiment. However, the priest believed the need of evil to show good (which reminds me of a short story, Satan, from Kahlil Gibran. You can read it here). The priest hoped that after the villagers did that evil act, they would feel so guilty that they would be closer to God, something that they hadn't really done all this time. The existence of Evil and Good is arguable, some religion and belief believe that the 2 would always be together hand in hand, to keep the balance of this world. Other religion believe in the final battle when good will rein, which as good as it is for me, I always wonder, then what? Good forever? Happily ever after forever? I think being burnt in hell for eternity is freaking scary (which makes me less evil than what I am now) but happily ever after also seem a bit boring for me. I prefer the idea of no feeling at all, no sadness as well as happiness. To disappear? Okay, I am digressing again, back to the story. So in the end, the villagers were ready to shoot this old woman (Goodness, the way they wanted to do it was so evil) but Chantal saved the day by using simple logic and in the end they didn't commit the murder. Honestly, the ending was, I don't know whether it was satisfying for everyone. The villagers didn't commit the murder not because they thought it was the wrong thing to do, but more because they were afraid with what would have happened if they had done it, and also because of the fact that they perhaps couldn't enjoy the gold afterall. It was an interesting story and as usual Coelho delivered questions that perhaps we also wondered in our life.

I was particularly moved by the sermon that the priest gave to the villagers after Chantal told them what the stranger wanted. The priest's sermon was about Job (a character from the old testament; in Indonesian bible, he is known as Ayub). The priest's story was different with what I remembered from primary school. Anyway this is what the priest told, Job was this successful and rich guy, then God allowed the devil to test him. So job lost everything, family, wealth, he even got really sick. As I remembered from my religion lessons, Job never wavered in his belief in God despite of all that happened to him. But the priest said, he did and when he started to blame God, only then God restored him of all his wealth and health, and all. The moral of the story from the priest was that and I quote "Why did God force Job to behave in that way? To show that he was by nature bad, and that everything that came to him was by grace and grace alone, and not reward for good behaviour.". This raised the question, if it is like that, then what's the purpose of being good? Interesting isn't it? Christian especially keep on saying that salvation comes from Jesus Christ and Christ alone, not achievable by what good thing we do. I honestly can't give you a convincing answer right now, why we should be good, why we should believe in God? Maybe because when you feel God's grace, your gratitude is huge and since we can't give back to the Almighty who has all, so all we can do is share God's grace to other human being. Even then, what we do is still not enough because God's grace is amazing and beyond words and too much for us to give back.

The Devil and Miss Eka

About me now, the days have been rough. Upsetting and uncomfortable things have been happening and the days are always infused either with stress, sadness, or fear. Keep on thinking it's because of the bad dog year but of course the more you believe it, the more bad things will happen. I am tired and afraid and just wanna stop. Haven't really feeling this for some time, but this time I just felt that I couldn't handle it all anymore (as always). I just wanna go away, and get lost (oH wait, I always want to get disappear, aren't I?). I should stay, it's not my time yet to leave this place. I should just stay and bear it with and hang on, it wouldn't be that long. However, I just felt that I couldn't take it anymore. Other than the not so nice sleep, I am also having neck pain these days. I feel that I don't have much time, and don't have much other thing. So much things to do and I feel things gonna crumble right in front of me and I wouldn't know how to live afterwards.

Gosh, Keanu Reeves is so handsome. Oh please God, give me someone like that.

Gunung Punggung Patah

Hehe, the title is a bit weird. It's a direct translation of Brokeback Mountain in Indonesian. I may translate it wrongly though Went to watch that movie with some people today The movie was really interesting. Interesting because of my reaction after watching it. Yes, it was quite draggy but I just didn't expect to react like this after the movie. Brokeback mountain as you may have all known, which I'm just gonna repeat again (perhaps in more detail), tells the story of 2 cowboys, Jack (Jake Gyllenhaal) and Ennis (Heath Ledger) who first met one summer when they were sherperding sheeps. One cold night, they ended up spending the night in the small tent. What started off as a way to avoid Ennis from dying because of sleeping in the cold night turned into a sexual experience (I kinda can't believe that I wrote that). Anyway, the morning left them feeling confused and weird, because they're sure that they weren't queer. However the confusion couldn't stop them from continuing on. The gig for them that summer was over and they went their separate ways. They got married and have kids. 4 years later, Jack looked up for Ennis and obviously they still had their fire inside their hearts (Gosh, this sounds so cheesy). They relighted that fire and ended up meeting several times a year for a "fishing trips". Ennis' wife (Michelle Williams) actually found out about it on the first day that Jack came, however she never confronted Ennis. They got divorced, and one thanksgiving with her new husband, Ennis' wife confronted him. Jack was pretty happy when Ennis got a divorce and he suggested again that they should just live somewhere, the 2 of them. Ennis rejected the idea again. I guess because he felt that he could never do it, or in the modern term, just be "open" about his sexuality. So, on and on they carried on with their "fishing trips", of course it has its problems. In the end, Jack died because he was killed and it was kinda sad for me actually.

I like the mountain scenes, with the mountain, trees, grass, and rivers, beautiful view. I felt it was kinda amazing that 2 cowboys could manage so many sheeps (so many!). I think Michelle Williams was pretty good in the movie. First saw her in Dawson's Creek and that image of her as Jenn there really stick in me, however she totally erased that in this movie. The sex scenes was kinda uncomfortable but strangely the sex scenes between the guys felt kinda natural and this is why I think it is so, and also why people have been saying that Brokeback Mountain is a good movie. Again, this is only my opinion.

A lot of time, most people just couldn't comprehend and believe that there could actually be "real love" between people of the same gender. We may just dismiss it as lust or being experimental. Again, it's because we just couldn't understand it. However this movie shows that, Love, no matter if it happen between people of the same gender or not, it's still the same Love. The same feeling that we feel, that we can relate with. Maybe they were great actors that made us believe how they feel. I just sympathize them so much throughout the movie. I seriously feel so sad for Ennis when Jack died, because I just didn't expect a sad ending like that and it was just so so SAD!!! Because it was about missing someone that we love some much. See...Now it has become about missing someone that we love, not so much about having a feeling towards a person of the same gender (I wonder if I'm explaining what I want correctly). Anyway, if you start thinking that I am weird, well let me just tell you that the girl sitting next to me actually shed some tears because she also felt that the ending was so sad. So, the movie is good because it's pretty enlightening, I think especially for people who are skeptical about gay relationship. As the tagline for the movie said "Love is a Force of Nature". It indeed is.

Had a pretty good time with the people I watched the movie with. No names because...well I try to hide myself (identity wise) though there are hints in many places but mentioning names of some people can lead to disclosing about me and what I do with my life. I don't know if I am that open. Had one and a half of brownies and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It was very sweet, there were actually 2 slices of brownies but I just couldn't finish it. All the sweetness makes me feel rather queasy now. Too much sugar. Okay, I don't know if the dessert was the one who caused this.

On other news. Geez, had an unfortunate thing this week. Left my dear Daisy (my external hard disk) somewhere this week. I didn't even realize that until the next morning. Still, I think I should be thankful that I could still get it back. Been thinking that...well, with each new year we are getting older (duH!). I normally claim that I am older only after my birthday pass but this year, strangely I was already embracing being 24. Not happily of course (I hate being older). I don't know, I just do. My dear cousin, Marlisa, said during one of our encounter that she truly felt old now, at this age and I feel exactly the same. 24 is old!!! However, last Saturday made me think this topic quite a lot, how I felt that somehow I get "special / better treatment" because I am young, which I am not! 24 is old. But I don't know, some people see me as being so young. Maybe the way I look, dress, or behave. I know I should just be thankful that people are being nice to me but I can't help feeling that it's a bit unfair (to other people who don't get that special treatment, I mean). I am in one hand maybe being unbelievably mean for not being able to believe that people can actually be kind and nice, maybe I'm just thinking about things that actually not there (I don't know, I am weird), maybe...maybe...maybe...I don't know. But at this age, I should be able to stand on my own feet and manage on my own, and all these times it just felt that I have been getting so much help that make me feel a bit of a failure because it felt like that I couldn't get through without help from other people. As I learned in junior high, human as social being do need other people in life and I could just see it as blessing from God. But still...I don't know why, I have this somewhere in my head that I'm such a loser for always having people helping me out. I am weird and this post has gone longer than what I wanted too. Never mind, I haven't been writing for a while.

Return to the West Side of a Small Island

Back. I am back, to this west side of this small island / country. As always, I was having a post-coming-home depression. Reach my room (technically) on Monday because it was sometime pass midnight. Tired. So tired. It was raining quite heavily when I arrived and the taxi uncle (Gosh, so many of them did this to me) didn't help me to unload my stuff. Come on, I'm a girl, it's late at night and plus yesterday was raining, can't you get your ass off your seat and help me...Geez!!! Okay...better stop bitching now.

This time around, home was nice, however my bro was around and he's an ASS. There I said it and I'm sticking by it. Was not planning to bitch about him, but Gosh...I just can't deal with him. How he ends up the way he is, is so beyond my brain. He's boastful, inconsiderate, disgusting, and shows no respect! Okay, gonna stop bitching about him. I don't want to waste one paragraph for him, a waste of words. The days actually felt that they were moving in an "okay" speed. Not too fast, unlike what normally happened with times at home. Chinese new year was okay. TV was not bad. Love Oprah so much; she's so cool. Most of the time, she made me cry though. Love the return of Spongebob and Patrick but when they took over TRL slot, I felt a bit sad. Watched more VH1 than MTV, because MTV Indonesia is not really showing all those MTV things anymore, like "cribs, MADE, pimp my ride" and all. Perhaps they did, and me being only a week plus there, didn't really see much. Back to the "Nick Toons", I miss The Rugrats. I wonder if they had stopped making Tommy and Chucky. I love Arnold too and glad to see him, though he's speaking in Indonesian Actually, I didn't really watch much of them, which makes me wonder what did I actually do with my days. Did get to go to the dentist and spend more than half a million of Indonesian rupiah, but my defense is that no matter what it will still be cheaper in Indonesia. Got a lot things fixed and cleaned but still have (according to the doctor) urgent situation with my wisdom teeth (2 of them up there) *sigH*

Again, Chinese New Year was okay. Didn't really go out anywhere. I don't count barbecue-ing with the aunts and uncles as a Chinese New Year thingy. The barbecue was not bad, I got to see some interesting plants in my uncle's place. Too bad, I didn't have my camera with me. Went out with the girls once, the girls as is my dear cousin Marlisa and Dewi. Didn't get to see Emilia until the end. I'm pretty speechless about that. Anyway, finally get the chance to see Idrus too when I went out with the girls So good too see him and so great that we all can still talk as usual though we haven't seen each other for a long time. Seriously, I am all for him and Dewi to be together. I think they are good for each other This support is despite of if Dewi has someone, it will trigger one panic button (one left). Anyways, if it is meant to be, it is meant to be right? Talking about Dewi, she finally read Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and praise the Lord that she also felt that Snape is not evil even though her interpretation of Dumbledore's last words is different that mine. Snape is not evil people!!! He just had to do it.

Okay, I am drifting again. Actually had a new year resolution this time around. How weird is that. Having my new year resolution on Chinese New Year instead. As many of you all know, it is the year of the Dog and for people who have Dog as their Chinese sign, it is not such a good year for them and one of those people is me. The way my mom and dad reminded me to constantly pray makes it seems like a catastrophe is gonna happen to me and so I am starting to feel rather weaken mentally. So this year, I decided to just take it easy. Take everything in and less bitching and speaking my mind. I decided to take breaks when I want to, to just don't care and just take a breather. Also on the list is to diet. I feel that I did gain weight back home. I can not stop chewing things, even when I wasn't hungry. My parent was kinda surprised to realize that I really can eat, especially meat. However, there are so many chocolates and cookies in my room that really need to be gone ASAP, more urgent than my diet *sigH* Today, I actually think that being in Singapore in itself already make me shed some weight since I don't really like / want to be here. This morning, as usual I woke up earlier than I have to, something that never happened back home. I supposed so much things just reside in my mind and I don't know why they are there and how to get them out. Someone pointed out recently and quite frequently that I was so "not-relax", so tense. I don't even know how to answer that. So many things are just inside my head, I suppose. Okay, I think I am done with my summary of home and the return to this small island? Oh yeah, supposed to go to our primary / junior high school bazaar back home, but Dewi decided that she wanted to take a nap. So we didn't get to see our teachers, not that they will remember me

PS: Oh dear, forget to mention this one important bit. Received my first birthday present for this year. It's from the girls. I don't know what it is 'cause I promised that I won't open it until my birthday. However, from the shape of it, it's not a wallet (which I secretly want. Never mind I will find the one that they gave me on previous birthday). It seems like it's some kind of a jewellery.

Rush...

Made it to the airport on time, but this is truly the rushest time I've been in catching a plane. Memoir of the Geisha was beautiful. To you all, that I rush myself to write this.

Happy Chinese New Year

PS (added in the small corner of the bamboo garden): Had a bit more time, so let me elaborate. The plane supposedly to fly at 06:05 pm and I only left Clementi at around 04:45 pm. The taxi driver was fast and very nice (he unloaded my things). Then found out that the plane got delayed and will be leaving at 06:35 pm. The changi internet connection is not so superb and I can not do internet banking here (I think they hadn't downloaded the java whatever thingy). To the Mr, sorry, didn't manage to email you (honestly it was on my list). Managed to talk to the other Mr this morning, but I guess he was rather concerned with his C. Okay, I am going to breathe now, all these rushing are so bad for my body, I am dehydrating. Take care you all Oh yeah, poor Arsenal!

Story From Home (December 2005)

Hello people, I promised to give that holiday story and I just recently managed to sort and fix all the pictures, as well as choosing the one that I want to show you. However before I start. Let's give a few update first.

Today, I have dismissed my faithful NEC VXi to its bag (waiting for its final resting place. Soon, it will be relocated). So that means for those of you who don't know yet, I have a new laptop. Finally after much consideration and researching, I fell back to my original desire Sony Vaio VGN-FS35GP. So far so good, loving it. Well I guess if you have been working for quite a long time with a not-so-good computer, anything better than it, is highly welcomed. However, I must give thank to my tough NEC. It had its cranky moments but overall it was tough and it was always there for me. I remembered the days when it pulled through so many times for me during my times in NUS. I made it work hard and it never really failed. We've been together for 5 years plus and for some people it's way too long. The only reason I have to replace it, it's because it's obviously dying. I just hope this kind of loyalty can be given by my vaio too, we will just have to wait and see. Anyway, the whole process of buying was pretty painless. I supposed because I wasn't the one who paid. It was Vivy Apparently my card has limit. However the strange thing was, I managed to return back Vivy's money using the same card in one shot. So I don't know what happened. Anyways, still getting used to seeing the widescreen and all but overall, I'm pretty thankful for having this. Thank you Lord.

On other but must-mentioned story. I had a nice dinner with several people yesterday. Had much laughter. Will miss those people and with 1 person gone, I'm already feeling the "lost". Maybe it's time for me to move on also? Did God give me a sign last week? How strange. Oh yeah must also write about one of the most amazing present I've ever received in my life. Dagi gave me the most wonderful Christmas present. There was a card, a me-to-you figurine, a book (haven't starting reading yet), and 8 types of German / Austrian chocolates. Imagine that! I couldn't help feeling blessed by God. I just have a feeling it was God's way of giving some tender loving care. Came at right time for me, because when I opened it I was still bumped out about being in Singapore and also with all the things happening.

Okay, now for story from home.
Went home for around 2 weeks. Watched The Chronicles of Narnia, the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Goodness I never thought that I would like a movie that involved many talking animals but Narnia was really good. So good that I wanted to read the books. However, come to think of it maybe it's because I don't read the book, I was less critical towards it, unlike how I was with Potter.

Had dinner outside with mom and dad which is rarely happen in our family (we don't really eat out). So it was nice to have that time with them. Too bad they couldn't eat that much anymore or eat much of anything they like.

Met up with the girls (of course). We had our pictures taken (again, Marlisa's idea). This time there were some shots taken using our graduation gowns, me being the odd one out. Idrus was supposed to meet up with us also but it was raining in his area so he couldn't come. Then went out again with Marlisa and Dewi on Christmas day. Emilia didn't come for the obvious reason, it's Christmas. Anyway, being out with the girls and do the girls stuff we used to do back when I was at home just felt so good for me. It's like they're giving me sanity. Everything just felt so right. Really miss spending those times with them.

Okay, for the story that made me spent a lot of time to prepare. We went to a Java-Bali tour for the holiday. We as in me, my mom, Marlisa (my cousin), my mom's 2 older sisters, and my mom's sister-in-law. Initially I just wanted to go to Bali so I was thinking of taking the plane there straight. However since the family is not keen on wasting unnecessary money and as my mom's reasoning said that we were going to Bromo so we took the bus for the whole trip. However my mom had kindly arranged a flight back from Bali to Jakarta (I was so relieved knowing that). Anyways, I should just shut up with all the arrangement because my mom paid the whole trip for me, even gave me money to shop. Thank God, I am not really a "shopping" person.

So the trip started on December 26, 2005 at around 09:30 pm plus. In hope we could reach our destination early in the morning. Man! I couldn't sleep at all. Apparently mom and the rest also couldn't sleep. We reached our first destination Candi Borobudur (Borobudur Temple) at around 11 AM, I think. It was smaller than what I expected. For those who don't know, Candi Borobudur is an ancient Buddhist temple. I saw many of the Buddha's head are gone, I guess it because before restoration people actually stole and sold these precious artifacts. Restoration was still going on in some part of the temple when we came. Compromising with what the rest wanted (my mom, aunties and all) we didn't really explore the whole thing. I wasn't that happy about it, but at least I have been there. That's one thing off my list, thank you God. So here are the pictures from the place (my first time using photo blogger):

After that we went to our humble hotel in Jogjakarta. Arrived there in the afternoon. Then mom decided we should got out, take the becak, go round Malioboro (shopping of course) and find dinner. I seriously wanted to go to the Keraton during our time in Jogja. However, the timing wasn't permitting. The Keraton (The Jogjakarta's Sultan's Palace) closes at 1 PM (so I heard from the "becak mas"). So please remember that for anyone interested in visiting the place. Dinner was gudeg and so sorry for anyone from Jogja, gudeg isn't really my kind of food though I think the chicken was good.

The next day was spent to reach our hotel in the foot of Mount Bromo. What a long bus ride, only arriving at yet another humble hotel at around 7 or 8 PM. It was cold there. The plan was to wake up early in the morning to go to the peak and wait for the sunrise. Waiting for this:

The plan was to get going at 2 AM but I was already awoken sometime after midnight and we only left at around 02:30 AM We needed to take small jeeps there because the road is quite tough for ordinary cars or bus. In the jeep, there were 5 of us who were successfully being squeezed at the back. Still maybe I should be thankful because some jeeps had 6 people in the back. The road was rocky. I heard it's because there are tremors from the mountain (Mount Bromo is still an active volcano) that causes the road, no matter how hard they try to fix it, still rough. However the worst thing about it all was that there are sharp turnings every few meters. Gosh I actually thought I couldn't make it there, I wanted to vomit. I was seriously having motion sickness. My mom amazingly managed to sleep during the trip, even though she will deny it Thank God that the car broke down once and we went through a straight dessert trail once that I managed to breathe and didn't vomit at all. When we got up there, it was still very dark with the moon and the stars. The air was so so so cold. Seriously, no kidding. Bring your winter clothing there. We were wearing gloves and all. So we went up and waited in the dark (very) cold night for the sun to rise. Kinda silly actually, but coming early ensure a nice spot. It pretty cloudy so the outlook of seeing a clear sky during sunrise was pretty slim. During those time of waiting, my dear cousin, Marlisa, noticed Marcel or was it Misca, the handsome twin brothers of the current Miss Indonesia (2006) Nadine Chandrawinata. I was thinking, Gosh the trip up there was becoming more worthwhile. So of course, we took pictures with them. The boys were handsome and the three of them were so nice. They were thanking us for taking pictures with them, all the while I was thinking we should be thanking them. We already bothered them and yet they were really friendly and polite, really made me smile Since, I don't look good in pictures, I would post my cousin's picture with them She doesn't know but I am so sure she wouldn't mind

One, Miss Nadine is tall and two, yes my cousin is taller than she is. My cousin is very tall. She is pretty, I hope she can do well in Miss Universe and I just have to say this again, the brothers are handsome If ever God is willing to give me such a guy. Anyway, then the sun rised and the view seriously made the trip worthwhile. I am thankful to God for being able to see such view.

After that we were taken to the volcanic dessert, however because of the drizzle we decided to just go back for breakfast. Now I found out that there are interesting stuff in that volcanic dessert. There's one interesting crater nearby. Maybe some other time.

The next bus ride was for Bali. The exit point from Java is the city Banyuwangi where we including the bus took a ferry ride to arrive at Gilimanuk, the entry point in Bali. The whole bus ride was so freakingly long. We were so excited after the ferry ride but then we found out that we must take another 3-hour bus ride to reach Denpasar where our hotel is. So again, saw many trees, at that time no more rice fields, instead I think we were inside a Teak forest (Pohon Jati), then I saw a coconut plantation. Very interesting, I've never seen so many tall coconut trees, all in rows. Finally arrived in the hotel to rest. Oh yes, approaching Banyuwangi in Java, I saw a very interesting Power Plant or PLTU in Indonesian. I forget the name but it was so humongous and interesting. It seems they were taking water from the ocean using very big pipes and maybe use it to generate electricity and all. So interesting that I actually want to go inside and learn how things work.

Back to the Bali story. The next day, a lot of the trips were to shops. After the first shop, we watch the Barong Dance. I'm so glad that we did watch it, it was interesting. The Barong is a magical mystical lion which represents good. The whole performance was about good against evil, and the interesting concept is that good and evil will always exists together. One could not destroy the other. Here are the pictures. The flower and statues are from a shop we visited. The picture at the bottom is the last part of the Barong performance, those men were actually thrusting keris to their bodies and the person in white is the Hindu priest who I think was praying and making sure that they wouldn't hurt themselves. The creature is the Barong.

The other interesting destination of that day for me was going to Kintamani where we saw Danau and Gunung Batur (Lake and Mount Batur). Funny how I remember the lake from our last visit and my cousin remembers the mountain. The only regret from this place was that we didn't try the Kintamani durian.

The next day, the morning was spent visiting Tanjong Benoa in which we went to Pulau Penyu (Turtle Island in where we also saw other animals. We needed to take a boat there. They covered the bottom of the boat with glass so that we can see inside the ocean. There were funny and cute fish on our way there, they quickly ate the bread we threw. However my camera couldn't really get them. So this was the best one I have (I hope you know which one is the fish). The weather when we got there was sunny but it actually had been drizzling on our way there. There are a lot of water sports in Tanjong Benoa. Wanted to try parasailing but the people said the wind was too strong that it wouldn't be safe. My cousin wanted to try flying fish. I wasn't feeling particularly healthy that I didn't accompany her. She went up with Doddy, a guy from our tour group. That's her picture during the flying fish at the bottom left.

A visit to Bedugul was cancelled because there wasn't enough time. We went to Alas Kedaton to see monkeys. The monkeys are so smart and mischievous. They would turn back each time I tried to take their pictures. I think they were rather cute. I think the one on the bottom right was pregnant. They would actually carried their babies around. So cute and so small.

The last stop of the day was Tanah Lot, one of my favorite place. We actually queued up for the holy water. It kinda reminded me of Catholics during communion. After I washed up, I strangely slipped. Luckily I didn't hurt myself, but I felt it was kinda weird. Only after did I find out that we supposed to drink the water. Okay, what so holy about it? So this big rock is in the sea right, near the beach, but the water coming from the statue inside is actually fresh water (not salty sea water). How could such thing happen, I don't know. My cousin, Marlisa, told me the story. So here are the views:

So that finally marked the end of the whole tour. It was December 31, 2006 that day. Unexpectedly mom had her own idea of what to do for new year's eve. I somewhat felt she was influenced by her big sister. I thought the plan was to spend the new year with my cousin living there. In the end it changed to enjoying the new year in Kuta Beach. It may sound nice but it actually one of the stupidest new year I ever had. I'm having difficulty choosing this or the 2000's New Year's Eve as the number 1 on the stupidest new year's eve in my life. So because of what have been happening (the Bali bombings), no buses can go inside Kuta after 2 pm on December 31st (actually I think no big buses are ever allowed inside the busy Kuta streets). So the rest negotiated with the bus driver to drive us to the Central Parking and we would walk from there. We were told that it was not so far but the not-so-far turned out to be 3 km!!! So we were walking and walking and walking. It started to drizzle and rain would pour occasionally. As we were nearing the heart of Kuta, the streets are full with clubs and many drunk and scary people. Seriously not my idea of a peaceful and reflective new year's eve. We were still walking. Then we reach Hard Rock Cafe, the beach is only a few meters away. My cousin finally able to bought the T-shirts for her brother (still had the shopping spirit). After we got out the shop, the rain poured quite unkindly, so our group, my mom and aunties, and there were other people too from the tour group, we decided to just go back to the bus. We found a car that was willing to take us there and we just hopped on. So technically we never reached the beach. We got to the bus and it turned out the other group from the tour also decided to go back to the bus because of the rain. So we actually spent that change to 2006 in the bus! Stupid and I was feeling sick. The only comforting thing was that during the walk, I was walking hand in hand with my mom and my mom was there all the time. I think if my mom had not been there, I would have been so pissed. It was quite an experience and I am at least glad, I experienced it with my mom.

We went back the next day to Jakarta, on January 1 and I went back to Singapore on January 2. Hence all the mellow feeling and all the tiredness and me being sick. Okay *pHew* end of story. Gosh, what an effort I make to write this post.

Added (11/01/06): the pictures was resized by blogger to be smaller for display, I decided to just display the original size, so downloading time maybe smaller. Also fixed the very erroneous title.

2006 Kelabu

I am back, dead tired and now officially sick. To add to the misery, was told a shocking news this morning and it totally adds weight to my dislike being here, Singapore in general. However, I must admit, being back home this time around did show me some of the things that I really don't like about home, the things that really make me wanna go away. Still, I don't wanna be here either. I am seriously lost and totally not at peace and alarmingly unhappy. Dewi has admitted of being worried about me. Infinite depression. Detailed account of the holidays will come soon with the pictures, hopefully I will have time to do it before next week. Thank God for the public holiday next week. Thank God! It's only a few more weeks before I go home again and yet, yesterday I felt like crying in the airport. Oh the melancholy. I don't know if I am gonna survive 2006. Was reminded time and time again that my Chinese sign will go bad in this year. Signs have been appearing. On a happier news, a friend got a baby boy. Too bad the dad is an ass for not giving some time for me. Oh well...Later peeps.

Goodbye (My Lover?)

Considering the day I will be facing tomorrow, it is quite late right now and I should get to sleep. But (Honestly I don't think it is grammatically correct to start a sentence with a 'but', is it?)...anyway, but I couldn't possibly go without saying goodbye and leave a few last message.

Tomorrow is home. Truly excited. Well, always excited about leaving Singapore but the so many things in here add to my eagerness to leave. It has been one tough week this week. For each of the day of this week, someone did something moronic to make me upset. I thought I was gonna be okay today and yet a moron felt the need to piss me off such early in the morning. I think I will be the moron tomorrow. Me, gonna hinder myself. So many things to do and yet not much time. I hope I can be cool because if I lose it, I'm gonna do a lot of things wrongly. Hence the need to finish this post soon and sleep. Bear with me, I will not be writing for some time. Well, not going to be online at all, I suppose. No checking of mails, whatsoever. Part of going home is to be really get disconnected with Singapore completely. To be isolated and alone in my immortal comfort zone (remember I am anti social)

A holiday is planned for the last week of 2005, all thanks to my mother. Am so excited about it and I can't wait. As usual, I can already imagine my sadness and me being depressed and all when I have to get back to Singapore again, when I have to take that taxi ride and passed through the beautiful Singapore river at night *sigH*

Okay, I am digressing now. The most important last message that I want to tell you all is...well it is the only one that I can think right now. Please pray for Arsenal victory against Chelsea this coming Sunday. Please...please...please. I will be praying and hopefully watching. The (I want to say moronic) sad Arsenal is number 6 in the league right now, if I am not mistaken. They need to win, seriously. I am getting worried that they may not qualified for the next Champion League (seriously doubt that they will emerge as champion in the current one, though I will still be supporting them). Anyway people...We need your support and prayer, please pray for Arsenal, thank you! Okay, now that I have written my final words, I can leave you all in peace. Have a great life people. A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year . Watch Pride and Prejudice people, it's nice! Lastly, what Christmas should be all about...

Jesus, Jesus
Oh what a wonderful child
Jesus, Jesus
So lowly, meek, and mild
New life, new hope, new joy He brings
Won't you listen to the angels sing
Glory, Glory, Glory
To the new born King

Pride and Prejudice

Went to watch Pride and Prejudice with Vivy last Saturday. Initially she wasn't interested. I don't really know what changed her mind but it's a good thing that she was interested because she helped me finalize the movie plan and made me really watch it before I run out of time

Pride and Prejudice is so good. We were so satisfied. Well-played I think. Everyone delivered their characters finely. Keira Knightley received a lot of praises for her character, Elizabeth Bennet. I guess people are just surprised such a fine beauty can carry a character like Lizzie Bennet so well. I think she did look less beautiful in this movie, I guess they really tried to make her so. One thing for sure, she is so skinny for the eye. Notice that in Bend it Like Beckham and she is still very skinny. She really needs to eat more. The story in the movie really followed the book exactly and it is really good. For those who don't read, you can really watch this movie to increase your knowledge on classic British literature. The people in the cinema seemed to be really enjoying and following the story despite the thick British conversation (it wasn't really hard to follow). It was funny at times, thanks to Mrs Bennet and I think Mr Collins also carried himself quite nicely. I feel I need to point out Judi Dench who played Lady Catherine. She was so intimidating as Lady Catherine, that I feel I wouldn't want to be in her presence. She is really a good actress. We hate her as Lady Catherine

Now for my Mr. Darcy. I love Mr. Darcy. The actor who played him wasn't amazingly handsome but I just love him, I don't know why. Honestly, the character Mr. Darcy is not really the kindest male character ever written in any story. He is at times pretty rude, unnecessarily rude. Yes, he did go all the way to make everything better for Lizzie but he also had such a pride. When he first professed his love to Lizzie, he didn't forget to say that he loved her despite of the inferiority of her family and every other bad things. Goodness!!! He is deserving of a hit in the head. What is it then that makes us fall for Mr. Darcy? Maybe it was the fact that a guy like him, with such a pride as him was willing to get rejected and yet stayed true to his feeling and be honest about it. He got rejected at first and yet he was still trying to make everything better for her, because he loved her. Isn't it sweet? Admirable guy! Or maybe we love him because he is just so cool. I feel he is actually kinda being over-shadowed by the rest of the characters. Maybe because as Vivy said, he was always looking so gloomy, maybe also because he had to keep his aloof composure. Whatever it is, I love Mr. Darcy

I read from someone's blog that actually Singapore get the US version instead of the UK version. This person totally hate the ending that we were adviced to leave the cinema before the movie ends. He was kinda true. The ending was so Hollywood and unnecessarily silly. I don't understand why they felt the need to customize it for Hollywood. The ending was actually kinda sweet, but when you multiplied it five or seven fold, it was seriously unnecessarily cheesy. Still, I really like the movie. It was good, and I think it's the best romantic movie ever came out after Love Actually. For guys, relax, it is not as lovey-dovey as Love Actually. Go watch it people.

On weekend news:

Tell Laura I Love Her. Last Saturday was the last meeting with Signora Laura. I really like her. I hope I will be so lucky to have her with us again

Arsenal, again lost. Bloody Hell

Is Saying Bloody Hell Rude?

I've been using the phrase Bloody Hell a lot after hearing Ron Weasley did that. I think the phrase Wicked! is also cool, but apparently things these days sucks, so I can not really use that. Surely Bloody Hell is not really rude? I don't say the F word. Not yet, at least.

Morons...oh Morons!!! I have been deadly furious and angry for these 2 days because of morons (blood pressure is soaring). Not just with one moron. I don't think I will be okay. Oh well, new people on my I-don't-speak-to-you list. I wonder how it is allowed in this world for morons to give such pain to people who have to fix their moronic acts. I guess, everything happens in this world. Every thing that you may not have imagined. Why are morons clueless? And stupid? What am I talking about, they are morons. How come they can not see that they caused such trouble to people around them?

Oh well, stop being mean I suppose. Actually the reason for writing is to tell you the most interesting thing I saw today. There was these 3 people, I supposed the husband, wife, and son. The husband is an old man, a westerner, the rests look Asians. Okay, the relation between them is my own assumption, I don't know if it is correct. I think today is the old man's birthday. So they decided to celebrate it. Guess where they celebrated it? On the steps of S17 or now it is called SOC1 in NUS. So there were these few small steps in S17 before going to the main door. The old man just sat there and there was this cake, which looked pretty big and tantalizing. They took pictures of him and the cake. Me being, across the road, didn't hear if there were any birthday songs. Then they cut the cake. Big cake, and only 3 of them. So as they were enjoying the cakes at the steps there, they shared it out with some of the (I think) Indian workers there. "How interesting!", I thought. I would never have the nerve to celebrate my birthday in the steps of S17 but the uniqueness of it all was kinda warm-hearted for the furious me. I think one should really has his/her birthday uniquely. I remember my birthday jelly. Loved it so much and the people who came, especially that guy who made the effort to walk all the way to my room. Gosh, those were happy times.
